A 'MASTERS PROGRAM' PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
including ‘DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY BOOT CAMP’
December 5 - 8, 2013 – Thursday to Sunday
Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area
Sponsored by the Mountains Restoration Trust and the UCLA Stunt Ranch Santa Monica Mountains Reserve
A 4 DAY 'Masters Program' Workshop.
"I wanted to tell you about an amazing photography workshop I just finished. It's a landscape photography class taught with an emphasis on the compositions and values that historical landscape painters used. Most of us painters use photo references and I took the class to learn how to make better photographs for this purpose.
The composition lessons alone made the workshop worthwhile. I got so much out of the in-the-field work and how to use the camera to emphasize values, etc.
The instructors are 2 master photographers, Tom Gamache and Van Webster, who are also excellent teachers. We got plenty of individual attention and, due to the personalities of the instructors, the group shared quite a bit of camaraderie. I think every painter and photographer, no matter what his/her level is, could get a lot out of their workshops."
- Kris Sullivan, Los Angeles, CA
Wandering Around Outdoors (‘WAO’) workshops have been designed for photographers of all levels and experience to help them unlock the mysteries of successful landscape photography and their digital camera.
This four day ‘Wandering Around Outdoors' Landscape Photography ‘Masters Program’ Workshop includes ‘Digital Photography Boot Camp’ which will help you take your camera off “Auto” and make “eye catching” landscape photographs. This unique workshop offers photographers of all levels the best fall colors and most dramatic light of the year in the country’s largest urban park. (Workshop reviews and reports)
Workshop co-instructor Tom Gamache is the award winning chronicler of the beauty, color and moods of the Santa Monica Mountains. To view examples of his work, see “The Santa Monica Mountains - Range on the Edge” from Angel City Press. Join Tom and Van for an exciting, fun and friendly learning experience capturing the peaks, valleys, oak woodlands and fall color of their beloved Santa Monica Mountains just as the “Masters” would have.

The ‘Masters Program' is an eye opening exploration of the compositional rules, guidelines and principles of landscape art that the masters have used for centuries. In this program you will learn you how to directly apply the language of landscape art to your photographic images. The information in this program will forever change how you create photographs and, in effect, view the world. Included in the ‘Master’s Program’ is extensive documentation that compiles and codifies decades of research and writing by Tom and Van on theessence of landscape art.
‘Digital Photography Boot Camp’ (DPBC) is a friendly but intensive program in digital photography technology with an emphasis on giving the photographer the knowledge and confidence to take their digital camera off of the “Auto” setting and gain control of their image making. Participants will be taken step by step through a series of exercises that will explore the dials, buttons and menus of their camera systems. Just like learning a sport or a performing art, using the camera is a skill that needs to be practiced in order to be mastered. DPBC gives photographers and painters the exercises and experiences necessary to make better art.
Tuition: $495.00 (minimum 8) Registration deadline – when all seats are filled. Board, Room, Transportation, Park Entrance and Use Fees are not included.
